Before VAUVENARGUES 14km east of aix having reached the 945 metre ridge marked by a monumental 19th century cross that does not figure in any of cezann’s pictures. Visitors can go throrgh the path east along the ridge to the summit of the massif and than descend south to PUYLOUBIER. At vauven argues a perfect weather beaten red shuttered fourteenth century chateau stands just outside the village with nothing between it and the slopes of ste-victorie. Picasso bought the chateau in 1958 lived there untill his death and now lies buried in the gardens his sculpture woman with a vase.
