Třeboň (German: Wittingau) is a town in South Bohemian Region of Czech Republic. Population is 8,862 (2004).
History
It was established around middle of 12th century. In 1366 the House of Rožmberk become owner of the estate. The period of greatest growth for the town dates to the second half of 15th century when Petr IV of Rožmberk (1462 – 1523) seriously began to take care of the land. The district became famous as fishpond farming area. Since 1611 Houses of Habsburg and of Schwarzenberg were owners of the town and the estate. In 19th and 20th century the city importance decreased.
Třeboň is the hometown of Czech international footballer Karel Poborský.

For its beautiful, well preserved architecture the city is target of tourists. Agriculture, spa industry and services are major economic activities of the area
